Twelve Calendar

Berlin Fashion Week is starting today, so i suppose we are all anticipating for the great avant-garde capital city to reveal its new gems for next winter. One of the week's hottest projects is the Twelve Calendar, a collaboration between Derzeit Magazine and photographer Lena Emery, showcasing 12 of the best new models and labels from Berlin.

Born Sleepy by J.W. Anderson

J.W. Anderson's menswear collection for next fall is called Born Sleepy, and has big retro vibe with amazing knits, graphic prints, flared pants made out of tech materials and a bright colour palette. I just love the brand's spooky, ironic campaign, shot by Alex Sainsbury, featuring model Oliver Greenall from Elite London.

Milan's Men Fashion Week is ending today. Have a look at its coolest boys posing for Luca Finotti's camera during the castings.

The Empire of Death

For three years Dr Paul Koudounaris, a specialist in Baroque culture and lector at major universities in Los Angeles, travelled the world to document various religious shrines decorated with human bones, crypts and remains from the sixteenth and seventienth centuries.

Elliot Joseph Rentz is just 17 years old, he lives in London and is a brilliant self-taught fashion designer. This is his second collection, based on metal and sculptural shapes. I think his collection video below can best prove his huge talent.

Galerie Suvi Lehtinen in Berlin presents the first major solo exhibition of artist Iwajla Klinke titled Crowns and Gladiola. Klinke's medieval-style portraits are inspired by Yona Wallach's poem Jonathan in which the author imagines herself as a boy being slain  by other children carrying gladiolas as swords. Her photographic work features images of young people and children in various roles, with elaborate costumes and the most bizarre styling we've seen lately, from dead birds and mice to meat and lit candles. Simply amazing.

Running from November 5th to November 26th, 2011

Adrian Wu is one of the youngest fashion designers of the Canadian design scene and at the age of 21 he has already produced seven collections during his two-year carreer. His latest collection for next summer is called Creatures of the Protons and is inspired by the Quantum Physics and the double split theory. Amazing gowns with sculptural detailing are the basic elements of this beautiful collection, in white, pale blue, green and red styled with wired headpieces and sky-high heels. An excellent collection and a spectacular presentation under the tunes of Maurice Ravel.

The new Miu Miu Resort 2012 campaign is inspired by aristocratic and noble portraits, featuring Guinevere Van Seenus and shot by David Sims. The collection is quite delicate but strong with beautiful balloon skirt dresses made of lace or taffeta teamed with an extraordinary collection of bracelets, earrings, headpieces and chokers decorated with multicoloured crystals and pearl cabochons.Very interesting project.

The new collection of menswear brand Komakino is inspired by skin with utility garments made of latex with laser-cut details, foldings and camouflage prints. The project is complimented by the following brilliant video by Dennis Schoenberg and Matteo Giordano.

As you may have noticed, i often like to post reports about young female photographers, especially those who praise women and femininity through their work. Logan White is one of those artists that through their lens see not only a beautiful woman, but a muse, a symbol, a goddess. Her style seems inspired by wiccan culture featuring little psychic stories of ethereal witches, mythical female creatures or enchanting heroines in really amazing locations. She started shooting at the age of thirteen and by now she has built an amazing portfolio that many would be jealous of. Logan's work has already been exhibited in major cities like NYC, Los Angeles, Rome and London and her client list consists of big names like Urban Outfitters, Nylon Magazine, Vice Magazine, Bullett Magazine, Interview Online and more. Definitely a big hit! Don't forget to visit her website, you'll be thrilled.

Greek designer Michail Gkinis who recently won the 2011 Tokyo New Designer Grand Prix professional category prize, presented the S/S collection of his brand Aptform during the Tokyo Fashion Week with this amazing fashion film. A great concept in black & white featuring a unique combination of dancing and fluid forms.

The 3rd Athens Biennale opened its doors last night with a great party in the centre of Athens, proving that it's one of the most important cultural institutions running in our city. Titled Monodrome, the exhibition deals with the current greek problem and its impact not only locally but globally, too, provoking a debate on how something new can arise from destruction.

The exhibition will be running by December 11th 2011 at Diplareios School, Arts Centre & Eleftherios Venizelos Museum. For more info visit the Athens Biennale website.
