London Art Fair 2012

The London Art Fair opens its doors today at the Business Design Centre in Islington, with the participation of 100 galleries and 1000 artists. The premier art fair is for once more showcasing the best from modern art in the 20,000 sq ft location fo BDC in two sections:

Twelve Calendar

Berlin Fashion Week is starting today, so i suppose we are all anticipating for the great avant-garde capital city to reveal its new gems for next winter. One of the week's hottest projects is the Twelve Calendar, a collaboration between Derzeit Magazine and photographer Lena Emery, showcasing 12 of the best new models and labels from Berlin.

Born Sleepy by J.W. Anderson

J.W. Anderson's menswear collection for next fall is called Born Sleepy, and has big retro vibe with amazing knits, graphic prints, flared pants made out of tech materials and a bright colour palette. I just love the brand's spooky, ironic campaign, shot by Alex Sainsbury, featuring model Oliver Greenall from Elite London.

Death Becomes Her

Katarina Rimarcikova is a good friend and supporter of Fashion Installation. So, i was more than happy when receiving the press kit of her new collection that was presented during Paris Fashion Week.

The collection entitled Death Becomes Her is inspired by memories of a male friend that became a woman and the physical and psychological tranformations through this journey.



Using her deep knowledge in menswear tailoring, Katarina created a great collection of dresses, coats, pants, blouses and skirts with short, feminine hemlines, with polymorphous silhouettes and well-constructed pleats.
The fine materials vary from pure silk to layers of fine mesh and leather, while the bright red, black and grey colour combinations give a theatrical note to the whole collection.

Meta.Morph

 Two new, incredible short films by photographer Andreas Waldschuetz. The first film titled Meta.Morph features the new armour body accessories collection of Una Burke and is inspired by Nicola Lane's Aesthetics of Prosthetics installation.
The second film is the new ultracoloured video campaign for the S/S 2011 collection of Ep_Anoui.

Cheyco Leidmann

 
While the fashion industry is promoting fetish style, trying to transform us into hot, wild mistresses, there are some others who take these ideas and transform them into high level, conceptual artworks. In the case of Cheyco Leidmann, ideas such as BDSM, fetishism, pain, pleasure and sexuality are driven to another dimension through his photographic lens.
Leidmann's photographic collages feature the most outrageous, provocative and shocking characters, from transvestites and prostitutes to drug users and homeless beggars. However, his strong use of colour and light with erotic aggressiveness make his pictures so appealing that it's almost impossible to take your eyes away from them.
 

His fabulous styles are going under the signature of his creative collaborator Ypsitylla Von Nazareth, who chooses the most outstanding outfits for his shots.
 
In the recent years, Leidmann's style has become more politically - sensitive with provocative and disturbing images, overshowing the toxicity of today's life.
He has created six award winning and best seller books and his work has been exhibited in the greatest galleries around the world. His photographic style is widely recognizable and has affected many famous photographers, film directors and artists.
